Frequently Asked Questions
About iFLY Youth
-
iFLY Youth is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that develops middle school girls of color into global leaders through leadership development, international travel, and community. Through experiential learning, cultural exploration, and global experiences, we help girls expand their perspectives and envision new possibilities for their futures.
-
iFLY Youth was created to address the experience gap many girls of color face by increasing access to transformative leadership development and global learning opportunities. We believe exposure to new cultures, communities, and experiences helps young people build confidence, strengthen their leadership skills, and see what is possible.
-
iFLY Youth primarily serves middle school girls of color in the Washington, D.C. region, particularly students who have historically had limited access to global learning and leadership opportunities.
Camp iFLY
-
Camp iFLY is our flagship leadership development program that combines identity exploration, cultural learning, storytelling, language learning, community building, and international travel. The program helps Scholars develop a stronger sense of self while building the skills and confidence to become global leaders.

Students participate in an application and interview process designed to identify girls who are interested in leadership, cultural exploration, and personal growth. We look for students who are curious, engaged, and excited to learn—not just students with prior travel experience.
-
No. In fact, many of our Scholars experience international travel for the first time through iFLY Youth. Our program is designed to make global experiences accessible to students who may not otherwise have the opportunity.
-
iFLY Youth works to remove financial barriers so that Scholars can fully participate. Program costs may include leadership development sessions, cultural activities, international travel expenses, accommodations, meals, transportation, and other program-related expenses.
-
Our destinations vary each year and are selected based on opportunities for meaningful cultural exchange, learning, safety, and connection with local communities.

The journey continues beyond travel. Scholars participate in a graduation experience and remain connected through alumni opportunities, continued global learning experiences, and leadership development opportunities.
